RE: Am I being scammed???(UPDATE - IT GETS BETTER!)

recently we had this scam pulled at NTB....They wanted over $100 for a 1 year guareanteed alignment, then when the car was on the rack, hit my wife up fro $300.00 for a rear camber kit. I made the mistake of going to a local shop known for squeezing extra money out of people right after buying a used Ford Windstar 8 years ago. The shop was conveniently located, and I mistakenly thought it would be good to have an alignment done. They called me and said I needed to have $600 worth of front end work performed. I told them to put it back together, I paid for whatever labor charges they had, and drove away. When I sold the van 80,000 miles later, the tires were still wearing evenly and the van was not showing any indications of any problems.

RE: Chrysler asks for bailout, gives bonuses....

What's even more awkward, is the fact that GM and Ford leaders would not accept a $1 a year salary, however Bob Nardelli of Chrysler would, in order to receive some help from the government. I agree that is a very good gesture, although truthfully I would not even want to give Nardelli the $1.

RE: Chrysler asks for bailout, gives bonuses....

I agree the bonuses look bad, but those Chrysler bonuses were contractual items from 2007 when Cerebellum was negotiating the purchase from DamnliarBenz. If you want to knock Chrysler for something, knock them for discontinuing the Neon and abandoning the fuel efficient small car market. Let's just hope the Big 3 (or most of the Big 3) can somehow survive so that our economy does not collapse. This is much more than just a Detroit issue.

Thanks for the followup, Les. That sounds like a nice truck. I'm sure he will enjoy it.

RE: Whould you buy a new vehicle....

yes but it would be a honda ,not a gas hog ford chevy or chrys. honda made in ohio. Oh sure, like the 2009 Accord Coupe V6 rated at 17 city 25 highway according to www.fueleconomy.gov. Or the Ridgeline "pickup" rated at 15 city 20 highway. Yup, get me one of them super high efficiency Hondas.

RE: Airbags or Timbren rubber spring helpers

I have Timbrens on my van and they are great. The cost is fairly low, and there is nothing to leak or adjust. I would definitely do it again.

RE: Chevy Colorado-GMC Canyon- good trucks? REVISED

I'd check out the Honda Ridgeline. The original poster said his son was concerned about fuel economy. The 4WD Ridgeline gets similar real world MPG to a full size pickup.

RE: Chevy Colorado-GMC Canyon- good trucks? REVISED

My neighbor has a 2006 Colorado 2WD 5 cylinder automatic, and he thinks it is the best truck in the world. Great for small loads and small trailers. I don't know his fuel MPG, but he says it is much cheaper to run than his Tahoe or his Sequoia. He said it is the only vehicle that has been completely trouble free in the 3 years he has owned it.

RE: Cost of equipping a vehicle?

The hitch price is easy to locate on the internet (guess $120-$150 for a class III). You will have to check with a local installer about labor prices. The trailer shops will probably look at you strange because they are used to working on full size trucks. They will have to run a wire for the brake controller and also a wire for the charge line. By the way, your 08 Sienna should make a fine tow vehicle. On another note, I have not been pleased with service from UHaul shops. They seem to make plenty of excuses about why something cannot be done. It's better to just locate a local small shop.

RE: Installing tow package on Dodge Ram?

Your also right on splicing into the brake lights at the back of the truck. I tried to tell them this can cause a fire but they insisted it wouldn't... I dont think they knew of any other way to run wires for brakes, signals, etc. I also made the mistake of allowing UHaul personnel to work on my vehicle. They installed a class II hitch on my "work" car (98 Chevy Lumina). I asked them to install a 7 way round RV light plug, and they said it could not be done. So, I did it myself after picking up the car. I should have just done the whole installation myself.

RE: Chevy Traverse - top Tow Vehicle

I think its absolutely hilarious that automakers change the 'label' from mini-van to 'cross-over', lose the slide doors in favor of regular doors, add 5-10 grand of 'markup' to the price, and this makes the vehicle gain nearly 2,000 lbs of towing capacity!? Wow, isn't that amazing?! Well stated. But, you forgot the part about large tires and a higher center of gravity, which could theoretically decrease the towing ability, all numbers aside. But, let's not let the facts get in the way of a good story. I agree with Will and Caddywhompus.

RE: Front wheel drive Suburbans, Escalades

If that does happen, they will probably just make them all with All Wheel Drive. That is what Honda did when they made the Ridgeline pickup from a FWD platform. That is what Ford did when they made the Jaguar X-type from the Ford Contour FWD platform. Regardless, it does seem hard to believe.

RE: 1983 Dodge W150 4x4 for towing

A 1983 W150 4X4 with a 360 can certainly handle a trailer like you are describing. Those are great trucks, and I would love to own one right now. But, just stating the obvious here, your current Ford 5.4 has probably 300 horsepower vs. probably 180 for the 1983 Dodge 360 (the 360 has great low end torque, though). In 1983 the only cab available on Dodge 1/2 ton models was the regular cab, so that limits your passenger capacity. Plus, any 26 year old vehicle will require a lot of attention, regardless of how low the miles on the odometer might be. It would be great to own it, but just plan to drive a little slower and turn wrenches as needed.

RE: Empty weight of 08 Sierra 2500HD SLT

What you were saying is factually wrong. OK Donn, but try to order a new Suburban without 4 wheel ABS and a CD player. Many people call those options, but they are standard on all Suburbans, yes, even the base stripper models. But whatever, I won't argue anymore, because what I am saying is factually wrong. 2009 Suburban features

RE: Empty weight of 08 Sierra 2500HD SLT

You may choose not to believe the simple facts. Take it easy, Donn. Put away your sword. All I was saying was that if all Suburbans have automatic transmission, power windows, and carpet as standard equipment, then the curb weight of a Suburban includes automatic transmission, power windows, and carpet.

RE: Empty weight of 08 Sierra 2500HD SLT

As usual, don't believe 'us', but believes the brochure, which is the 'curb' weight, which is the 'base' or 'stripper' model with one 150 lb driver. Ben, I have seen you address this in the past, and sometimes you have made misleading statements such as calling automatic transmission, AC, power windows, power locks, etc. as options. They are options on some models but standard on others. Keep in mind that brochures often list the weights for specific models (ie. 4WD SLT Crew Cab diesel), and sometimes those specific models often have many features standard, such as automatic transmission, AC, power windows, power locks, upgraded interior, etc. So, if you read a brochure that lists a 4WD SLT Crew Cab diesel at a certain weight, that means that it is the weight of a 4WD SLT Crew Cab diesel which probably includes automatic transmission, AC, power windows, power locks, upgraded interior, etc. All I am saying is that you should not always assume that curb weight means a model with roll up windows and vinyl floor mats.

RE: Who thinks that the Dodge and GM merger is a good thing?

US taxpayers already bailed out Chrysler once, doesn't look like it did much good. It's not good to rewrite history. US taxpayers did not bail out Chrysler back in 1980-81. Chrysler received government backed loans, and the government was paid back in full, much earlier than what was needed.
